Pilgrim Monument Lighting Planned for Tonight

PROVINCETOWN – In a Cape Cod Thanksgiving week tradition, the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown will be lit for the first time this holiday season Wednesday night.

The annual lighting ceremony will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. The free event which is open to the public will include music, cookies and cider.

Nineteen strands of 3,100 lights will be lit every night through January 6 to represent the five weeks the Pilgrims spent in Provincetown Harbor on the Mayflower before sailing to Plymouth.

The monument has served as a beacon of tolerance and hope for over 100 years.
