Planning Board to Address Marijuana Sales

HYANNIS – After shelving the matter at its last meeting in June, the Barnstable Planning Board will consider two items tonight that deal with the potential for marijuana sales in town.

The first proposal, Item 2018-163, sponsored by Councilors Beedenbender, Cullum and Schnepp, proposes to create a Cannabis Overlay District along with regulations for establishing and operating marijuana establishments.

The second Item, 2018-159 proposes to prohibit non-medical marijuana establishments townwide, that Item is sponsored by Council President Steinhilber.

The “Current Applications” section of the Planning Board website contains the full text of both proposals, supplemental materials and a link to video of the Town Council and Board of Health’s joint workshop on Recreational Marijuana as well as Monday’s Planning Board Meeting.

Maps of the proposed overlay district can be found in the “Rec Marijuana Regulations” file.

The Planning Board meeting takes place tonight at 7 at Barnstable Town Hall.
