YARMOUTH – Following a recount, the margin of victory in the vote for a new intermediate school for the Dennis-Yarmouth School District was was reduced to 25 votes.
The second of two recounts of the vote for the new Dennis-Yarmouth school was completed Friday in Yarmouth, resulting in four additional no votes than originally counted.
That recount total, combined with Thursday’s recount in Dennis that yielded and additional three no votes, reduces the margin of victory for the school from 32 to just 25 votes.
The final tally in Yarmouth following the recount is 1,500 for and 1,957 against. The unofficial Yarmouth results from the December 4 election was 1,955 against and 1,502 for.
The final tally counted in the Dennis recount was 1,361 votes for and 879 against.
The proposed school would cost an estimated $117 million and house students in the district from grades 4-7.
The plan also calls for closing the Mattacheese Middle School in Yarmouth.
The recount was requested by opponents of the expenditure.
