ORLEANS–The Pleasant Bay Alliance is seeking volunteers to assist them in their efforts to clean coastal waters with excessive amounts of nitrogen this summer.
Residents in Orleans, Chatham, Brewster, and Harwich voted for measures to clean the local waters during the past Town Meeting season. Volunteers will be collecting data and conducting research via traditional and non-traditional methods, such as sewering and fertigation.
“Data collection is really essential,”Pleasant Bay Alliance Coordinator Carole Ridley said.
“It’s really been the foundation for developing our understanding of the nature and extent of nitrogen pollution in Pleasant Bay.”
Past experience is not required. Equipment and support will be provided.
“We ask our volunteers to attend one training, that lasts approximately one to two hours. The monitoring itself takes place six different mornings throughout the summer,” Ridley explained.
Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to reach out to Ridley at 508-430-2563, or [email protected].
