Plover Numbers Down At Seashore

Beach TracksPROVINCETOWN – Officials at the Cape Cod National Seashore are busy monitoring Piping Plover populations as fledging season is underway.

Jason Taylor is a Natural Resources Officer at the park, he says the trend has remained similar over the last several years.

The numbers of nests, pairs and chicks have all been down.

Taylor says predators are the number one threat to the birds.

Rangers are now employing exclosures in an attempt to protect the plovers.
