Plymouth DA: No Criminal Charges in Wareham Drowning

WAREHAM – The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office says it will not file charges in connection with the drowning of an 8-year-old boy off the coast of Wareham in July.

Harry O’Connor of Sudbury died at Children’s Hospital in Boston three days after the vessel he was on capsized in Buzzards Bay. 12 people, including 9 children, were pulled from the water. O’Connor was trapped beneath the boat.

Eyewitnesses said the vessel appeared overloaded.

In a press release, District Attorney Timothy Cruz’s office said the matter was investigated by State Police detectives, the Coast Guard, Wareham Police, and the Wareham and Marion Harbormasters.

The Chief Medical Examiner’s office ruled O’Connor’s death an accident.
