PLYMOUTH – The Plymouth School District recently sent letters to parents highlighting the district’s relocation plan during an emergency event at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.
In the event of an emergency at the plant, students and staff would be bussed to pre-selected host schools in Taunton that have been designated to receive school children from Plymouth.
During a “fast-breaking emergency” students would be taken to the Taunton High School reception center for radiological monitoring, then transferred to the host school.
Despite the recent attention and elevated scrutiny surrounding the Pilgrim Nuclear Power station, the timing of the letter is mere coincidence, as it is sent annually to parents.
“It’s just coincidence that all of the attention on the power plant is highlighting it’s future and past,” said Gary Maestas, Superintendent of Plymouth Public Schools.
The plan is reviewed annually, and devised by the school district, Plymouth Board of Selectmen, and emergency management officials.
