Police and Residents Gather to enjoy Barnstable Unity Day

unityHYANNIS – Hundreds of residents and visitors enjoyed the warm weather and sunshine at the inaugural Barnstable Unity Day, held at the Hyannis Village Green on Friday.

The event included musical acts, food, raffles and children’s activities, as well as a dunk tank and face painting.

The group “People of Action”, formed by Hyannis brothers Jesse and Andre Barboza, came up with the idea for the event, approaching Barnstable Police Chief Paul MacDonald about the idea.

“We want everybody to be open with each other, it’s all about respect, and hopefully we can continue to do this and this will be the first annual, and we can continue this throughout the years to come,” said Barnstable Police patrolman Christopher Botsford.

Within 10 days, the event was planned by the group, creating a fun and lively atmosphere to show support and appreciation between the community and the police department.

“We just want to make sure that people remember that it’s all about community, trust, respect and really love, and that’s what we’re trying to do, and remind everybody of,” said Jesse Barboza.
