Police Search For Missing Yarmouth Man on Lt. Island in Wellfleet

FlemingWELLFLEET – Police are searching for a missing Yarmouth man in a secluded area of Wellfleet.

William Fleming, 56, was reported missing to the Yarmouth police department on December 20. Based on that information, Yarmouth officers and detectives began searching for a blue 2014 Toyota pickup truck.

On December 28, officers in Wellfleet responded to Lt. Island after reports came in of a suspicious vehicle stuck on a dirt road. Police discovered that the vehicle was the pickup being sought in Yarmouth. Wellfleet police and Barnstable police K9s began searching for Fleming, to no avail.

Officers searched again on Tuesday in poor conditions and did not find Fleming.

A large scale search is planned for today, with K9 officers from Barnstable, Yarmouth, and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing all assisting Wellfleet police.

Wellfleet police chief Ron Fisette says Fleming has no known connections to Wellfleet. Yarmouth police officers are working with family members to try and determine why Fleming may have been in Wellfleet.

Anyone with information is asked to contact either Yarmouth or Wellfleet police.
