Police: West Yarmouth Arson Suspect Arrested

arsonYARMOUTH – Yarmouth police say the man accused of setting a Constance Avenue home on fire earlier this month is in custody.

26-year-old Joseph Hathaway, of West Yarmouth, called police late Sunday night and said he was responsible for the arson at the abandoned home on September 7. Hathaway reportedly told police he was planning on setting another fire and wanted to be arrested.

Officers interviewed Hathaway and then took him into custody.

Hathaway is charged with felony arson of dwelling house, felony breaking and entering building nighttime for felony, and felony destruction of property.

Nobody was injured by the fire. The State Fire Marshal’s Office had previously been offering a $5,000 reward for information on the blaze.

The home, which was in foreclosure, was completely engulfed by flames the time firefighters arrived.
