Polito Participates in Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Training at Otis

BOURNE – Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito participated in the Military and Civilian Collaborative Regional Training at Otis Air National Guard Base last week in Bourne.

The training, hosted by the Military, Veteran, and Families Working Group, was part of the Governor’s Council to Address Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence.

The interactive, one-day training is designed for community victim advocates, law enforcement officials, sexual assault nurse examiners, mental health counselors, prosecutors, military victim advocates, military chaplains, military criminal investigators, military leadership, as well as others.

“We are grateful for our partners in the military and civilian communities, as well as non-profits and members of the Governor’s Council to Address Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence who have worked hard to pursue ways to help survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault break out of a cycle of violence,” said Polito, chair of the Governor’s Council to Address Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence.

“These regional trainings build upon collaborative efforts with the goal of leveraging supports and closing gaps in our military and civilian systems, and the Council will continue to develop solutions and resources to assist and support survivors.”

Throughout this training, participants develop a greater understanding of military as well as civilian systems, protocols, and culture. Mallory Tucker and Dr. Scotti Veale, of the Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center in Virginia, conducted the training. Trainings were also held this week in Springfield, Framingham, and Chelmsford.
