Popular Thanksgiving Comedy Returns to Cape Cod

butter-ballCOTUIT – A comedy show which sold out last fall before it even opened returns to Cape Cod next month.

The one-act comedy “Butter Ball” returns to the Black Box Theater at Cotuit Center for the Arts from December 1 to 18.

The performances will be held Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m.

“Butter Ball” takes a dysfunctional family holiday to a whole new level of absurdity.

The show is written by Woods Hole playwright Bronwen Prosser, who also directs.

She says the holidays are a time of heightened energy and unobtainable and crippling expectations of ourselves and our families.

Flora is the matriarch of the family and the detail-obsessed hostess for the holiday get-together. She has given her son, who is in his late 20s and has barely left the house, the responsibility of cooking the Thanksgiving turkey for the first time.

They will be joined for the holiday by Uncle Dickey, who is Flora’s illicit lover, his daughter and his wife.

The play is only suitable for mature audiences because of its language and themes.

Tickets are $18, $15 for members, and can be purchased at cotuitcenterforthearts.org.
