YARMOUTH – A controlled burn will take place in Yarmouth today until 4 p.m. as part of an effort to reduce wildfire fuel.
It will happen in the area north and east of Chickadee Lane and west and south of the Bayberry Golf Course and Route 6 in the West Yarmouth area.
Natural Resources Director Karl Von Hone said the prescribed burn will also help promote wildlife habitat.
About 2-to-3 acres will be burned during the operation. People in the area should not be concerned if they see smoke in the air.
The burn is being conducted in conjunction with the Massachusetts Fire Service Department, Yarmouth Natural Resources and the Yarmouth Fire Department.
