BOURNE – Prescribed burns are scheduled for today and Wednesday on Camp Edwards at Joint Base Cape Cod.
The burns will be conducted in the grassland in the southern area of Camp Edwards and in its training area by the Massachusetts Army National Guard’s Natural Resources Program, in partnership with federal, state and non-profit agencies.
The fire operations are intended for rare species habitat management and also provide the benefits of firefighter training, wildland fuels reduction and training lands improvement.
The fire management program uses prescribed burns for ecological benefits by attempting to duplicate the role of natural fire.
Camp Edwards is home to 37 state listed species of plants and animals.
The burns are weather permitting.
