HYANNIS – One year after becoming the president and CEO of Cape Arts & Entertainment, the parent organization of the Cape Symphony Orchestra, Roland Valliere has resigned.

“Roland Valliere has decided to resign as CEO/President of Cape Arts & Entertainment,” said Robert Barker, Chair of CA&E Board of Trustees in a statement.

“Our Board appreciates the contribution he has made to our organization during his time here,” Barker said.

According to the Symphony, Valliere announced his resignation earlier in the week, saying he was “looking forward to pursuing other professional interests.”

“It was Roland’s decision, it was a voluntary decision,” Barker said.

He took the job just one year ago, joining the Cape Symphony from Memphis, Tennessee, where he had been with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra since November 2013.

Valliere, who is from Rhode Island, took over from Jerome Carter, who retired last year.

In an interview with capecod.com last year, Valliere called the Cape Symphony job a “once in a lifetime opportunity.”

In late September, Oceanside Performing Arts Center announced their intent to purchase land that is currently a golf course adjacent to the Resort and Conference Center near the West End Rotary.

Several members of the Oceanside board are also members of the Cape Symphony board of directors. Valliere was expected to help lead the new facility.

Barker said Valliere’s departure will have no impact on the project, and said it was moving ahead as planned.

“We feel very, very strongly that this will not impact that at all,” said Barker.

Linda Mawhinney, CA&E’s Chief Operating Officer, will continue to manage the day-to-day operations of the Cape Symphony in addition to her other responsibilities.

Stephanie Weaver, Executive Director of the Cape Conservatory will continue to lead the Cape Conservatory.

The statement announcing his departure said a nationwide search for Valliere’s replacement is underway.
