Princess Elettra Marconi To Visit Chatham Marconi Maritime Center

CHATHAM-  The Chatham Marconi Maritime Center (CMMC) will welcome Princess Elettra Marconi Giovanelli, daughter of wireless pioneer Guglielmo Marconi this week.

Marconi will arrive in Chatham May 30th.

“We are very honored to have her again [this year] visiting us. This is her 4th visit to Cape Cod and each time she’s visited both the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center, here in Chatham, and the Cape Cod National Seashore folks in Wellfleet. She’ll be visiting both places again on this trip,” says Bob Fishback, Vice President of the Maritime Center.

The Princess will also visit students at Monomoy Regional Middle School during the afternoon of the 30th for a program on Marconi History and innovation.  Experts from the Cape Cod National Seashore and CMMC will also be joining for that event.

“One of the [additional] events while she’s here, on the evening of the 31st, is essentially a panel discussion/symposium on the history of Marconi innovation on Cape Cod, and Italy… Basically the topic is going to be the impact on technology and innovation during the course of his professional career,” says Fishback.

Before leaving Chatham, Princess Marconi will wrap up her visit with one of her favorite pastimes, a Sunday sail on Nantucket Sound.

More information on additional events, you can visit CMMC’s website at ChathamMarconi.org.

Founded in 2002, the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center is a 501(c)(3) organization which celebrates the rich history of 20th Century maritime radio and explores the innovative advances in science and technology that continue to transform our lives.
