Program Offers Artists the Chance to Convene with Nature on Sandy Neck

BARNSTABLE – A new program sponsored by the Town of Barnstable and Cape Cod Art Association will benefit ecologically-inclined artists and the House at the halfway point at Sandy Neck Beach.

The town will offer excursions in the late spring and in the fall where artists can spend some time in the dunes and let the natural world inspire a new work.

Plein air painters, photographers, musicians, sculptors, writers and artists of all kinds are encouraged to apply.

A beach ranger will provide transport to the house, 3.5 miles from the start of the beach.

Trips will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 5th, September 8th, September 22nd, October 13th and October 20th.

Sunset trips from 2 p.m. until after sunset will take place May 19th, September 10th, September 24th, October 15th and October 22nd.

A naturalist will be on hand during some of those excursions to provide biological context to what the artists see and answer any questions.

Costs are $70 for members of the Cape Cod Art Association and $95 for non-members.

Applications are available at www.artsbarnstable.com.

The town is a noted supporter of local arts, with artist shanties set up each summer by Hyannis Harbor and regular displays of paintings in town hall.
