Project to Repair Provincetown School Building Wins Two Approvals

PROVINCETOWN – Provincetown voters overwhelmingly approved spending $7.3 million this week for major upgrades at the high school building.

The 264-119 vote on Tuesday in favor of the money affirmed the town meeting vote taken on Monday.

The Massachusetts School Building Authority approved funding for renovations and repairs at the school earlier this year.

The district is authorized to receive up to $3.5 million.

The project will improve major building systems, including roof, windows and HVAC at the 62,000-square-foot school.

The building authority will reimburse over 50 percent of the expenses towards the $7.3 million project.

The Provincetown High School building was constructed in 1931.

“The renovations at the Provincetown Schools facility will mean a better learning and teaching environment for area students and teachers,” said MSBA Executive Director Jack McCarthy earlier this year. “We are delighted to be partnering in this project.”
