HYANNIS – The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration Fisheries is accepting proposals for the unique Monkfish research set-aside program.

Priorities for research proposals include monkfish life history, stock structure, migration patterns, interactions with other species, population surveys, bycatch, sources of catch mortality and gear studies to reduce unwanted bycatch.

Projects selected will be awarded fishing days rather than grant money with proceeds from the catch to be used to fund research.

Proposals will be accepted through 5 p.m. on December 21.
