BOSTON – Some homeowners who have installed solar panels on their home have enjoyed receiving a check from the electric company every month, instead of receiving a bill.
But legislation being considered in the Massachusetts House of Representatives would place a mandatory charge on residents using solar energy for electricity in their homes.
House bill 4185 calls for a minimum charge on electric bills, including those who use solar energy to power their homes.
The bill is currently before the Joint Ways & Means Committee.
Supporters are trying to pass the bill before the legislative session finishes up at the end of July.
A new group has formed opposing the legislation and advocate for amendments to the bill.
