PROVINCETOWN – The Pilgrims landed in what is now Provincetown in 1620 before heading over to Plymouth, and the town will celebrate that history in 2020.
The 400th anniversary celebration will be orchestrated by the Provincetown 400 Task Force’s latest hire: new executive director Lisa Giuffre.
“We’re very proud of that part of our history, it is often left out or not stated correctly,” Giuffre said.
The events of 1620, the signing of the Mayflower Compact, honoring Native Peoples and the establishment of Provincetown are all topics Giuffre said will be touched leading up to and during the year 2020.
Giuffre has 25 years of experience in nonprofit work and will oversee the fundraising and operational elements of the anniversary.
She said the Provincetown 400 Task Force will work closely with sister organizations Plymouth 400 and Massachusetts 400.
Massachusetts recently developed a 35-member commission to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims arriving in the new world.
Giuffre will attend a public meeting on Friday, October 28th at 10 a.m. inside the Community Center on Mayflower Street to ask the community for their celebration recommendations.
