PROVINCETOWN – The 400th anniversary of the Mayflower Pilgrims landing in Provincetown is just two years away and a task force has been established to plan for the celebration.
The Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum has put together a 24-member Provincetown 400 Task Force to oversee the development and execution of events, programs and fundraising throughout the 2020 celebration.
David Weidner, the executive director of the monument and museum, says the group with meet monthly to focus on different aspects of the celebration.
“We think that we are going to have activities throughout the year that this task force will create and put fundraising behind to bring the 400th to life in Provincetown,” Weidner said.
The task force represents all aspects of the community including educational institutions, non-profits, public safety, health care, the town, the harbor, finance, chambers of commerce, businesses, arts and culture and the native Wampanoag.
“We want to create activities in 2020 that will draw people to our community and to our town from a historical and educational perspective, but also from a commemorative and fun perspective to think about the things that happened 400 years ago but also make some plans for the future,” Weidner said.
The task force will be chaired by John Jay Wooldridge, a PMPM trustee.
