PROVINCETOWN – Provincetown’s Select Board is about a month behind schedule on selecting a new town manager, according to Assistant Town Manager David Gardner.
Gardner, who has been the acting manager since April, urged the importance of finding a new manager as soon as possible to the board last week.
“I would like to respectfully remind the board of what a critical process this is, and the dramatic impact not having a permanent town manager on board has on a community like ours,” Gardner said.
A new manager is not expected to take office until the start of the new year at the earliest, which Gardner mentioned is the beginning of the busiest four month stretch for the town.
“It is absolutely critical that we not delay, but push this process as priority number one for the next several months,” Gardner said.
Rick Murray, chairman of the search committee to find the new manager, advised that after meeting again at the end of this month, the committee is looking to begin the interview process with candidates at the start of November.
The new town manager will replace David Panagore, who accepted a job with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.
