PROVINCETOWN – After a number of complaints regarding long-term parking issues in town, a new bylaw in Provincetown will implement 14 day parking restrictions for certain municipal streets.
The move comes as town officials try to limit the number of cars being parked in the same spot for long periods of time during the busy summer months. There have also been reports of cars being left on streets for the entire winter season, making clearing the roads a difficult task for snowplows.
“This proposal is aimed at something we’ve been trying to address for a very long time, and that will make sure that the neighborhoods don’t become long-term parking lots,” said Tom Donegan, the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen.
The bylaw does not impact resident only parking areas, and instead looks to limit temporary parking on municipal streets. Most of the roads falling under the new restrictions are side streets.
Cars that receive complaints will most likely receive a warning before a ticket is issued.
Free parking is available in Provincetown at the municipal parking lot throughout the month of April. Town officials decided to not charge at the lot until May in attempt to help local businesses.
