Provincetown Police issue advice to walkers amid hunting season

PROVINCETOWN  – If you’re going into the woods this time of year you have to wear something bright. We ask our residents, visitors and dog walkers to remember if you are going to enjoy the outdoors to wear florescent orange along with their pet while walking in wooded areas during this time of year.

For you hunters out there make sure you know the laws and regulations.

Even though Massachusetts is the 3rd most densely populated state in the country, it is a state where deer can be found just about anywhere.

There are 85,000 to 95,000 deer statewide. Densities range from about 10 per square mile in northwestern Massachusetts to 45 to 55 per square mile on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
Hunting on Sunday’s is prohibited by state law.

Hunting hours: Half-hour before sunrise – Half-hour after sunset

Bow and arrow season officially got underway in Massachusetts on Monday October 17th and ends on Saturday November 26th.

Massachusetts hunters are allowed to hunt two antlered deer per year, and as many antler-less deer as the hunter has a permit for.

Gun season starts November 28th through December 10th.
Shotgun Season: Nov. 28 – Dec. 10
Primitive Firearms Season: Dec. 12 – Dec. 31
