PROVINCETOWN – Town officials in Provincetown have scheduled spring water main flushing beginning next month.
The flushing begins on April 16th with the Truro portion of the water system. The Provincetown portion is expected to begin on April 23.
Most of the flushing will take place between 9 a.m. to 3p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The Provincetown Water Department will have a full schedule and list of the affected streets available for customers.
The flushing can cause discolored water and a temporary reduction in water pressure, but the discoloration is not a sign that the water is harmful. The Water Department recommends customers limit their water usage while their portion of town is being work on to avoid any staining of laundry or plumbing fixtures.
The purpose of the flushing is to minimize the buildup of sediments and mineral that can affect water quality and to ensure that valves and fire hydrants are operating properly.
