PROVINCETOWN – Every September the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival draws theater lovers to celebrate the life, work and enduring relevance of one of America’s great playwrights.
The fest includes performances of Tennessee Williams’ classics, his experimental works and new works Williams has inspired.
Since its founding in 2006, the festival has presented 58 plays by Williams, including 10 world premieres.
Abrahamse and Meyer Productions from South Africa returns to the festival this year with its highly acclaimed The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore.
This year the festival is also presenting Williams’ genre-shattering play The Day on Which a Man Dies in a reperatory collaboration with the Abrahamse and Meyer actors.
In the festival’s tradition of presenting original works of modern theater artists who have been inspired by Williams, the festival welcomes the Spatfeather Theater, a new company from London which aims to provoke and delight by subverting traditional expectations of music theater.
Spatfeather has adapted Williams’ play The Case of the Crushed Petunias which had been performed in a storefront at the Tennessee Williams Festival in 2009.
The 10th anniversary festival will take place in various venues in Provincetown from September 24 through September 27.
