Provincetown to Consider Micro Homes to Quell Housing Crisis

KA_Provincetown_Ptown_TownHall10_11315PROVINCETOWN – Provincetown officials are working with researchers from the Urban Land Institute to find a solution for its housing crunch, and the solution may come in the form of micro houses.

ULI recently introduced the idea to town officials and residents, and the homes would be about 300 square feet, and would be used for year-round as well as seasonal housing.

The ongoing study also indicated a couple of potential sites as well.

“The VFW is one of the sites in addition to our old community center,” Board of Selectmen Chairman Rafael Richter said. “That’s really the discussion going forward that we’re having is how to use those couple of parcels.”

Existing town zoning regulations may pose an issue in regard to lot size and density restrictions and would have to be reviewed if the ULI’s final report supports the building of micro housing.

The final report is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
