PROVINCETOWN – The first ever Provincetown Employer and Community Forum will be held this month at Provincetown Town Hall.

The program is intended for all Summer Work Travel J-1 visa employers, housing providers, and community members to learn more about the purpose of the program and to ensure that all who are involved will run it safely and successfully.

Line supervisors at businesses are encouraged to attend the forum, since they often have the most day-to-day interaction with participants.

Topics will include:

  • responsibilities of Summer Work Travel employers, participants, sponsors, and community
  • employer tips and best practices
  • program advocacy updates
  • cultural exchange opportunities for 2019.

Representatives of the visa sponsor organizations, the Social Security Administration, and the United States Department of State will participate in the forum.

The Summer Work Travel program is a public diplomacy cultural exchange program with a work component. The program is an important part of the Provincetown economy and community. With recent countrywide attention on the J-1 Summer Work Travel program, it is important now more than ever to safeguard this valuable program.

Participants are international university students who live and work in seasonal communities during their summer vacation. After working a maximum of four months, participants have up to one month to travel around the United States.

The forum will be held on Wednesday, April 17 from 10:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m. at Provincetown Town Hall, located at 260 Commercial Street. Attendance is free.
