Provincetown Waives Parking Fees in April to Boost Tourism

PROVINCETOWN – Visitors to Provincetown this month won’t have to pay for parking.

Once again, selectmen waived parking fees for April to celebrate the beginning of spring.

“Early spring is a great time to visit Provincetown,” said Anthony Fuccillo, the town’s tourism director. “We have free parking the entire month of April and the shops, galleries and restaurants are open and the inns have springtime rates – so we thought it would be a nice thing to offer visitors.”

Fuccillo said business owners are happy with the measure taken by selectmen.

“It’s a town’s initiative to help encourage visitation,” he said.

Waiving parking fees is something the town has done the last few years.

Fuccillo believes the effort has increased visitation to the town in the month.

“It’s a difficult thing to measure, but we do notice,” he said. “The town is busy. There are a lot of visitors stopping in to our office and asking us what to do while they are here and what is open and where to go – asking about entertainment.”

Fuccillo said if it is not bringing more people to the town it is helping those who are coming to stay longer.

There are no plans to extend the free parking later into the spring for next year or in the fall.

Parking fees return May 1.
