Provincetown, Wareham Head to Town Meeting

PROVINCETOWN – Two area communities will hold town meetings Monday night.

Provincetown residents will consider 19 articles including up to $7.3 million dollars for renovations at Provincetown High School. The funds would be used to replace the heating system, gymnasium roof and gymnasium windows along with the installation of an emergency generator.

Voters will also consider a smoking ban at town-owned beaches and limiting speech at town meeting to five minutes.

Provincetown Town Meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.

Wareham residents will head to special town meeting staring at 7 p.m. at Wareham High School.

Residents will consider 33 articles on the warrant including the removal of the town’s wetlands protective by-law along with the acquisition of two parcels of land.

Town meeting will vote on using $400,000 of Community Preservation Act funds to purchase Wickets Island and authorizing $675,000 to purchase about 51 acres of property on Fearing Hill Road and Farmer’s Lane.

Another article seeks $11,000 of Community Preservation Act funds for a Swifts Beach engineering plan which includes a redesign the Joseph W. Conway Sr. playground, a removable pedestrian bridge and structures that limit unauthorized vehicle access to all town owned Swift’s Neck and Swifts Beach beaches.
