Public Comment Being Sought About Barnstable Open Space And Recreation Plan

BARNSTABLE – The public is invited to comment on the Barnstable Planning and Development Department’s Open Space and Recreation Plan next month.

Anne Brigham, the Principal Planner, said the public has already had an opportunity to provide input to the plan.  “The benefits of the Open Space and Recreation Plan include access to natural diversity funds.  It also reassesses community needs and priorities, which included a survey,” she said.

Following a presentation of the plan on March 8th starting at 6:00 pm, residents will be able to review it and give their opinions regarding what is contained therein.  The meeting will take place at Barnstable Town Hall in Hyannis.

Brigham points out that many of the surveys contained one surprising element.  “Maintenance of the existing facility really came out in the survey, as opposed to additional facilities. That was important,” she said.

Questions and comments are expected about a variety of topics, including conservation, wildlife habitat and recreation.

Copies of the plan are now available, and opinions are being accepted until March 12th.
