CHATHAM – A public hearing is being held Tuesday in Chatham regarding the Monomoy Wildlife Refuge Draft Management Plan.
The plan has been controversial, with the federal government proposing to take control of over 700 acres of Chatham’s South Beach.
The town strongly opposes the plan.
Libby Herland from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said that the proposal is just a draft and nothing is final
Tuesday’s meeting is set for 6 p.m. at Chatham High School. Those planning on speaking are asked to arrive at 5:30 to sign up.

The public will have an opportunity to comment on the Draft Management Plan for the Monomoy Wildlife Refuge at a meeting tomorrow/tonight. The meeting will be held at 6 o’clock; officials ask those who want to speak to arrive at 5:30. The plan has been controversial, with the refuge wanting to take control of over 700 acres of South Beach in Chatham. The town has argued they have protected the environment well, but Libby Herland of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says the refuge needs that land:
