Public Hearing Tonight On Dennis Portion of National Grid Gas Main Project

national gridDENNIS – A public hearing is set for Monday night on the National Grid Mid-Cape Main Replacement Project, which calls for the replacement of 18 miles of gas main on the mid and lower-Cape

The company is seeking comment from residents on plans to replace nearly 5 miles of 10 inch gas main in Dennis with 12 and 20 inch main. Work is scheduled to begin in 2017 and should wrap up by 2019, according to National Grid officials.

The forum begins at the Harwich Community Center at 7 pm.

Company officials had to issue a moratorium on new gas hookups after problems were discovered with the current line. National Grid also lowered pressure in the main after it was discovered it could not handle the 200 pounds-per-inch it was previously carrying.

The Department of Public Utilities later fined the company $1.25 million for the issues with the main.
