Input Being Sought for Parking Strategies in Downtown Hyannis

HYANNIS – The Town of Barnstable is seeking input from the public on potential parking implementation strategies in downtown Hyannis.

Town officials are looking for individuals who either live, work, shop or dine in downtown Hyannis that are interested in learning about, and providing feedback on, potential strategies to increase parking availability, enhance connections between parking facilities and downtown destinations, and improve signage.

The Town of Barnstable and its consultant, Nelson Nygaard will host a public meeting, where they will present an overview of the Hyannis Parking Plan recommendations and discuss potential implementation strategies developed as part of this process.

Following the presentation, attendees are encouraged to participate in an interactive open house and provide feedback at stations that will each focused on different implementation topics.

The open house format provides an opportunity to interact with the project team; learn more about the pros, cons and/or tradeoffs of different implementation strategies; and identify community priorities to achieve downtown parking goals and outcomes.

Implementation strategies to be highlighted include employee parking program options; demand-based strategies including parking time-limits and rate alternatives; shared parking options and opportunities; public space and infrastructure enhancements; and more.

The goal of the meeting is to identify key implementation priorities and strategy options to best achieve the community goals identified and evaluated during the 2017 parking study process.  Feedback received from the meeting will assist the project team in the development of the final implementation framework.

The public meeting will be held on Monday, May 6 from 5:00 p.m. through 7: p.m. at Barnstable Town Hall.
