MASHPEE – A public meeting will be held later this month to discuss the Route 28 Eastern Mashpee Corridor Study.
Staff from the Cape Cod Commission and the towns of Barnstable and Mashpee will provide an overview of the project goals and current conditions, along with gathering input from the community on the future of the Route 28 corridor from Route 130 to Orchard Road.
The section of Route 28 was identified as a priority due to congestion and safety issues.
The roadways sees significant back-ups, especially during the summer months, which is a barrier to regional travel, along with access to local businesses and homes.
Safety issues are also a concern as the stretch of roadway has seen more than 150 crashes over a three-year period.
Accommodation for all road users, including motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and transit riders, is also a key concern.
The Cape Cod Commission is conducting the study to develop alternatives that will provide safe and convenient access for the area for all users.
The meeting is Wednesday, July 26 at 6 p.m. at the Mashpee Public Library.
A second public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 27 to discuss potential improvement alternatives.
