Cape Cod Rabies Vaccination Baiting To Begin This Month

BOURNE – 72,000 vaccine baits will soon be distributed throughout areas over the the canal in an attempt to prevent raccoon rabies from returning to the Cape.  In addition, almost 28,000 will be scattered from the canal to the western part of Barnstable.

Near the end of the process, sections of Barnstable will also be baited.

On Friday, anyone with questions or in need of more information can visit Bourne Town Hall where representatives of the Cape Cod Rabies Task Force and U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services will be on hand beginning at 10:30a.m.

Off-Cape towns to be baited include mainland Sandwich and Bourne as well as Wareham and Plymouth.

The baiting will run from the 23rd to May 29th

Although they pose no threat to people or pets, the public is asked to not disturb any of the fishmeal cubes.

An additional baiting is scheduled for the fall.
