Ragnar Cape Cod Relay Race to Finish in Yarmouth on Saturday

YARMOUTH – The 200-mile Ragnar Cape Cod Relay Race is unveiling some new changes this year, including new course sections and an oceanfront finish line at Smuggler’s Beach in South Yarmouth.

The race began on Friday and continues into Saturday.

Organizers say that the Yarmouth finish line will mean easier parking and hotel access, along with entertainment and post-race activities.

“We’re very excited that right now they’re projecting around 4,500 runners will be at the finish line, which is extremely exciting and we’re anticipating that our local businesses will have a positive impact from that,” said Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mary Vilbon.

Plans include a barbecue, musical entertainment and free trolley rides to transport runners to their beachside hotels, restaurants and other destinations around Yarmouth.

The race runs from May 10-11.

The race has previously finished in Provincetown.

Some restaurants are providing discounts to runners and mixing Ragnar specialized drinks.

The Chamber of Commerce is also providing materials for runner goodie bags for each team.

“We’re trying to make sure that they know that Yarmouth is ready for them and they’re welcome here,” said Vilbon.

The Ragnar Races, named after a fearless 9th century Scandinavian conqueror, began in Utah 16 years ago and has grown in popularity.

Ragnar now operates 17 relay races around the world, along with a number of trail races, sprints and sunset races.
