Cape and Islands Women’s March Set For Saturday

HYANNIS – A coalition of Cape and Islands women will gather for a rally and march Saturday in Hyannis.

The date is the one year anniversary of the marches in Washington, Boston and around the country.

One of the event’s organizers, Reverend Dr. Kristen Harper, said a big part of the events is putting forth a large statement.

“Together we’re stronger.  We have a voice, and that voice is important and needs to be heard,” she said.

The rally will start at 11:00 am on the Hyannis Village Green.  There is room for as many people who wish to attend and signs are welcome.

The march will begin at approximately noon and proceed down Main Street, which will be temporarily closed.

Harper said the day is all-inclusive.  “It really is about all people, sexes, sexual orientations, races and classes.  All of us getting together is the big piece we’re really trying to emphasize,” she said.

Speakers will include U.S. Representative Bill Keating, State Rep. Sarah Peake and State Senator Julian Cyr.
