BOSTON – Three antinuclear activists with the Cape Downwinders were arrested Friday during a rally at the State House.

The group delivered a letter to Governor Baker calling for him to demand the immediate closure of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth.

Mary Conathan, of Chatham, Doug Long, of Orleans, and Harwich resident Diane Turco were arrested by state police troopers for trespassing after refusing to leave the Governor’s office.

The three are scheduled to be arraigned today at the Boston Municpal Courthouse.

The Downwinders are a group of activists working to raise awareness of the dangers and risks posed to public health and safety by the nuclear plant.

Pilgrim experienced another unplanned shutdown last week and is under increased oversight by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

The shutdown was caused by a high water level resulting from a problem with a regulating valve.

It’s just the latest equipment issue with the troubled plant that is listed as one of the worst in the nation by the NRC.

Entergy announced last year that they would close Pilgrim by 2019.
