HYANNIS – Real estate sales volume and value were up last month in Barnstable County, compared to August 2016 numbers.

That’s according to Barnstable County Register of Deeds Jack Meade, who reports that sales were up 5.4 percent and value up 10.4 percent from last year.

The median individual property sale value was up nearly 2 percent from August 2016 and there was an 8.4 percent decrease in the volume of mortgage activity.

“Overall, I just think there’s a decent level of activity and interest out there with the market being more stabilized than it’s been in a long time,” said Meade.

The median sales value last month was $340,000, which is $6,000 more than last year’s numbers.

So far this year, the volume of sales is up 5 percent, total value of sales is up 7.7 percent and mortgage volume is down 3.4 percent.

“We’re in a strong period,” said Meade. “Overall for the year, total individual sales value is up nearly six percent, so I think that trend will continue and we’ll see a higher median in the fall months,” said Meade.
