HYANNIS – The volume of real estate sales in May was up nearly 6 percent from May 2015 and the total value of sales was up over 11 percent from the previous year.

That’s according to Barnstable County Register of Deeds Jack Meade, who reported that the median individual property sale value was up 6.3 percent from last year.

“I think we’re seeing an active market and rates continue to be low,” said Meade. “We’re seeing a lot of first-time home buying activity, so I think it’s just been an overall decent market.”

There was also a 0.4 percent increase in the volume of mortgage activity from May 2015 levels.

So far this year, the volume of sales is up 22.8 percent, total value of sales is up nearly 20 percent, individual sales value is unchanged and mortgage volume is up 4.5 percent.

“Now we’re starting to see that activity at the mid-end and higher-end that typically comes in late spring and that’s helping put our value numbers up,” said Meade.
