Recount Confirms Approval of New Sandwich Police and Fire Stations

ElectionSANDWICH – Sandwich town officials conducted a recount Thursday after the approval of new police and fire stations was challenged.

Fired Sandwich firefighter Andrew Davison gathered enough signatures to contest the outcome from five of the six precincts that voted on May 5.

The $17 million Proposition 2 ½ debt exclusion to pay for the new facility passed by 35 votes.

A recount of the submitted votes found that the margin widen to 36 votes that passed the plan.

According to the Town Clerk’s office, 3,300 votes were cast out of the town’s more than 15,000 registered voters.

It took staff over two hours to recount the votes of the five districts.

Over 400 ballots were cast in the precinct that was not counted Thursday.
