Rectrix Begins Flights Between Hyannis and Nantucket

[Not a valid template]HYANNIS – The void in commuter air service between Hyannis and Nantucket left when Island Airlines abruptly shut down last December has been filled.

Rectrix Aviation begins its new shuttle service today.

A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony was held yesterday at Barnstable Municipal Airport which introduced the company’s new Beech Super King Air B300 aircraft.

“It’s the beginning of a new venture we are getting into,” said Richard Cawley, Rectrix CEO. “We’ve been running jets for charter all across the world and this is a new area of aviation where we actually sell the seats instead of selling the plane.”

Airport Manager Bud Breault is happy to have the service back between the Cape and Nantucket.

“We’ve had this need for additional aviation flight services for passengers back and forth and we are hoping this new service will bring some of our folks back that have departed and gone to the ferries,” Breault said.

The new aircraft, which are twin engine turbo props and can make the trip in nine minutes, will hold nine passengers and each flight will include two pilots.

“The King Air is a much larger aircraft than what’s currently being flown over to the island,” Cawley said.

Having two pilots on each flight is will lead to safer flights, according to Cawley.

“Safety with us is obviously number one all the time,” “There’s a saying at Rectrix, ‘You are either pregnant or you’re not’ and what we mean by that is there is never 99 percent. It’s always 100 percent.”

Rectrix hopes to grow the service and expand to other locations, which was echoed by Breault.

“We’re hoping that will expand and perhaps eventually we will get jet service,” Breault said.

Rectrix is offering low introductory fares at www.flyrectrix.com and www.rectrix.aero.
