HYANNIS – The local chapter of the American Red Cross will honor local difference makers with the 16th Annual Heroes Breakfast this spring.
The event recognizes local people who saved a life, served the community, or helped someone in need. The awards breakfast is scheduled for April 13 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis.
This year’s master of ceremonies will be Channel 5 News anchor/reporter Doug Meehan. Meehan grew up in West Yarmouth and went to Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. He started his career working as a reporter and anchor for Cape 11 News.
The honorary chair of this year’s event is Rosemary Heath, the widow of George Heath. George was killed in the Silver City Galleria knife attack rampage in 2016, and is credited with saving the life of a pregnant waitress who was being stabbed.
Heath was present at last year’s event and helped honor the Plymouth County Sheriff’s deputy who shot and killed the attacker. She presented the Life Saving Hero award to James Creed and his wife Laura.
“We are truly honored to have her again with us this year and she continues to honor her husband’s legacy,” the Red Cross said in a news release.
