HYANNIS – The 16th Annual Red Cross Heroes Breakfast will take place Friday to honor more than two dozen people from Southeastern Massachusetts. The recipients have saved a life, helped those in need or served their community in another extraordinary way.
Hilary Greene, the executive director of the Cape, Islands and Southeastern Mass chapter, said the community does all the nominating.
“The heroes are nominated by people in the community. Then we have a selection committee that goes through all of the nominations. This year we had 56,” she said.
After a tough narrowing down process, the committee ended up with 25.
This year’s honorees include people from Mashpee, Cotuit, Orleans, Hyannis, West Tisbury and Nantucket.
Greene points out that many don’t feel they deserve special recognition. “We convince all of these people, please, we need to honor you because you were nominated and the community needs to hear your story,” she said.
The breakfast will take place at the Resort and Conference center in Hyannis from 7:30 to 9:00.
