Red Cross Recognizes Community Partners at Annual Meeting

HYANNIS – The American Red Cross of the Cape, Islands and Southeast Massachusetts held its annual meeting last week at Fort Taber Community Center in New Bedford.

The meeting recognized community partners and also dedicated volunteers and newly elected board members and officers.

The Red Cross recognized Firefighter Ann Marie Peckham, of the Westport Fire Department with the Community Service Award for the work she’s done in promoting safety and fire prevention in the Westport community and for being the catalyst for the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, installing free smoke alarms in residents’ homes, installing over 70 herself and joining with her team to help make more Westport homes safe.

The Red Cross also recognized the United Way of Greater Fall River with the Community Leadership Award for their support of the Fall River area not only with funding but also helping the 84 residents burned out of their homes on New Year’s Day by participating in the Multi-Agency Resource Center and raising special funds for this tragic event in Fall River.

UWGFR has supported the Red Cross with funding to assist individuals burned out of their homes for many years.

The Red Cross also honored local volunteers who have donated their time to help Southeast Massachusetts communities for 5, 10, 15 and 20 years.
