Regional Technical School Superintendent Says Needed Expansion is Planned

WALSH PHOTO_Bourne BridgeBOURNE – The Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School in Bourne is considering a “needed” expansion.

Students from Falmouth, Bourne, Sandwich, Wareham and Marion are served by the vocational school.

Superintendent Robert Dutch said the school, which currently enrolls 727 students, was only built for 500.

“Our goal is to try to add another annex building on our campus in the next two years just so we can alleviate the crowding a little bit,” he said.

Dutch said an increasing amount of college graduates coupled with a decreasing amount of available jobs for them is a major reason why more parents and students are seeking out vocational education.

Since students work on all construction the school takes on, Dutch said it could take a couple of years for completion.

By his estimates, it will allow for only a few more open seats each year.
