Registration Now Being Accepted for February ‘Stop the Bleed’ Training Session

ORLEANS – Another shark related ‘Stop the Bleed’ training program has been scheduled in Orleans for February.

Due to an overwhelming turnout at the January ‘Stop The Bleed,’ program, the Orleans Citizens Forum is presenting a second ‘Stop The Bleed,’ with Orleans Fire Chief Tony Pike on February 12, 2019.

The January class is fully booked and enrollments for the February training program are being accepted now.

The program is open to all Lower Cape residents. Due to the hands-on nature of the program, however, class size is limited to 25 registrants only.

Orleans Fire Chief Tony Pike and Fire personnel will conduct the training.

Stop The Bleed is a national emergency services program that was featured on 60 Minutes on November 4, 2018. It was initiated by a federal interagency workgroup in the wake of two shark attacks on the Cape over the summer, one of those being fatal.

The program provides local surfers and the wider community with training in life-saving skills related to shark attacks. The training focuses on the basic techniques of bleeding control.

The February session will be held at the Orleans Senior Center on February 12 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
