Registry of Motor Vehicles Makes New Online Services Push

trafficBOSTON (AP) — The Registry of Motor Vehicles is hoping to persuade more Massachusetts drivers and car owners to go online.

The registry is launching a campaign to promote its MassRMV.com online registration and license renewal services. The agency is preparing to process more than 1.3 million renewals before the end of the year.

Registrar Erin Deveney said using the online option takes a few minutes and avoids long waits at registry offices.

Licenses are eligible for renewal 12 months before expiration and registrations may be renewed up to six months in advance.

Not everyone is eligible.

Branch visits are required for certain commercial registration transactions, customers with unpaid financial obligations and those who require an eye test or new license photo which is required every 10 years.
